Protecting “Señor Juan”

WHEREAS, Antemio “Juan” Nazario-Cardona has been an important member of the UIC community
for many years where he participates by handing out smiles with his treats and hospitality to students on
campus; and
WHEREAS, in light of the recent GoFundMe fundraiser created by UIC Students named “Support Juan
the Beloved UIC Street Vendor” being able to exceed the goal dollar amount twice;
WHEREAS, Antemio may become a clear target from criminals when on campus due to the high
traction gained from this public fundraiser, his vulnerable physical status, and high monetary award he
will be receiving; and
WHEREAS, the safety of students and all those who are members of the UIC community is a top
priority and concern for the Undergraduate Student Government (USG); then
LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the USG General Body asks that the UIC Police Department may partake
in the correct precautions when ensuring the physical safety of this beloved street vender when on
campus after this money has been awarded;
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, that the USG General Body asks that Antemio isn’t removed from
the campus grounds as a short term solution to the concerns revolving his physical safety at the UIC
campus.
