Party to the Polls

WHEREAS, student voter registration and participation rates at UIC have been historically low, with
only 70% of UIC students registered to vote, and of that 70%, only 30% actually participating in voting,
with many students facing barriers such as a lack of awareness about registration deadlines, difficulties
in accessing polling sites, and limited education about voting options; and
WHEREAS, it is crucial to provide nonpartisan, educational opportunities to raise awareness of voter
registration, early voting, and voting by mail without promoting any specific political viewpoints or
candidates; and
WHEREAS, the Student Leadership and Civic Engagement (SLCE) Center has expressed willingness to
collaborate with USG to engage students in the democratic process through events aimed at improving
voter participation; and
WHEREAS, an event titled Party to the Polls will take place on Wednesday, October 30, from 11:00
a.m. to 3:00 p.m., giving students the opportunity to share their thoughts on the upcoming elections,
participate in games and activities, and join the national campus democracy challenge; then
LET IT BE RESOLVED, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) will collaborate with the
Student Leadership and Civic Engagement Center to host Party to the Polls, which will function as an
early voting site, organized in a unbiased, nonpartisan manner to ensure inclusivity and neutrality for all
students.
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED, the USG will contribute to this event by allocating a maximum of
$2,750 to provide food and refreshments for 150 - 200 attendees, such as chips, salsa, and desserts.
LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED that all unspent funds shall be returned to the budget.
